Narendra Modi : The Greatest Prime Minister Of India

N.D Modi(in Gujarati born September 17, 1950 in Vadnagar , Gujrat ) is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister of India since May 2014 . Previously, he was Chief Minister of the State of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 .
Narendra Modi was born in Vadnagar in the Mahesana District (Mehsana). He was the third of six children of a grocer and tea stall owner; as a teenager he was later to have a tea stand with his brother in Ahmedabad . Modi was engaged at the age of 13, but broke up with his family early on. He studied political science at Gujarat University and has a master’s degree.

Since 1971 he has been involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1985. In 1988 he became general secretary of the BJP in Gujarat. He was involved in the party’s political rise in the 1990s. In 2001, when Gujarat suffered from the effects of previous natural disasters such as the strong January earthquake, he became the successor to Gujarat’s resigned Keshubhai Patel Chief Minister . He presented himself as a pro-Hindu leader and propagated Hindutva ideals. Modi modernized the administration of the state and new growth came during his reign.

In the December 2002 election, he was confirmed as Chief Minister in office. Within three years he was named India’s best chief minister twice by India Today magazine for his economic and administrative success. He was considered a promising lead candidate of his party in the elections to the Indian parliament .

In December 2007, Modi and the BJP won the election in the state of Gujarat again, also in December 2012.

In the national parliamentary election of 2014 , Modi as the top candidate of the BJP achieved an absolute majority. On May 26, 2014, he was sworn in as the new Indian Prime Minister.

Economic policy

Modi pursues a classically conservative and economically liberal policy. For example, the bureaucracy traditionally widespread in India was deregulated and a tax reform carried out to strengthen the domestic economy and attract foreign investors. The modernization is to be advanced under the slogans “Make in India” and “Digital India”. In 2016, an overnight cancellation of the 500 and 1000 rupee notes caused protests.

Social and environmental policy

Under Modi, India suffered an extensive cut in the welfare state. State health care, pensions and funds for the Ministry of the Environment have been cut and environmental regulations have been relaxed. On the other hand, the government launched a program called Swachh Bharat Abhiyan , such as clean India , which plans to expand wastewater and fresh water supplies across the board .

Foreign and defense policy

In terms of foreign policy, relations with the countries of the Middle East, including Israel, were deepened. India signed a border treaty around the Indian-Bangladeshi enclaves and joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization . The already tense relationship with neighboring Pakistan worsened again. Modi has repeatedly referred to Pakistan as an exporter of terrorism. In 2016 and 2019, India carried out air strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistani territory in response to terrorist attacks.

After an attack in Gujarat in February 2002 on a train with Hindu pilgrims , violent clashes broke out between Hindus and Muslims, which, according to official estimates, killed 254 Hindus and 790 Muslims. [10] Independent sources put the death toll of Muslims to over 2000. Some 150,000 Muslims were driven into refugee camps. Numerous women and children were among the victims; The violence included rape and female mutilation .

The authorities imposed a curfew in Gujarat, ordered the police to fire and called on the army to prevent the violence from escalating. [11] [12] Still, human rights organizations accused Modi’s government of not doing enough to stop the riots. [13] modes initially joined back; However, his party was able to expand its majority in the Gujarat parliament in the new elections and re-elected him as chief minister.

In 2005, Modi was denied an entry visa by the United States because of its “responsibility for serious violations of religious freedom”. The Indian government protested against this. [15] Five years after the violent actions, modes refused to consider his own role critical. He broke off a CNN interview in 2007 , asking questions about the topic. [16]

In April 2009, the Supreme Court appointed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the role of Narendra Modi and his government in the riots. The SIT reported to the court in December 2010 that no significant incriminating evidence against Modi was found and that there was no indictable evidence that Modi had willfully permitted the riots. SIT thus cleared Modi of legally relevant guilt in the Gulbarg massacre in April 2012 during the riots in Gujarat in 2002.

Modi maintains an ascetic lifestyle. He has a vegetarian diet , does not consume tobacco or alcohol , writes poems and is considered a computer savvy. [1] a long time he appeared in public as unmarried. It wasn’t until the 2014 election campaign that he admitted to having a wife. Following the unveiling, Narendra Modi’s brother Sombhai said the arranged marriage was in the youth of the two and the marriage had never been completed. [21] The couple has been living separately for several decades. Modi’s wife Jashodaben has been appearing publicly ever since, emphasizing her role as a traditional Hindu wife.
